SPY PICS: Nip and tuck for Range Rover Sport

Facelifted model to make room for a smaller SUV positioned above Evoque?

Spy photos of a facelifted Range Rover Sport have surfaced, hinting at a mid-life refresh scheduled for launch late this year as a 2017 model.

The current generation Range Rover Sport, with its innovative all-aluminium body, only arrived in 2013 – and deliveries in Australia commenced in the latter half of that year. Since then, Land Rover has been continuously keeping the Range Rover Sport up to date, leaving open the prospect that the 2017 update will be little more than a cosmetic change, and perhaps some fuel consumption/emissions-related tweaks for the drivetrains.

According to the spy photographers, the subject of these pictures features a revised grille, new intakes flanking the engine-cooling duct below the front bumper and a restyled clamshell bonnet.

The changes appear to bring the Range Rover Sport closer to its upmarket Range Rover sibling, in terms of visual presence. That more conservative look would expand the perceived gap between the Sport model and the small Evoque. If the Range Rover Sport is moved upstream from the Evoque, that would leave room for a fourth model, squeezed in between Sport and Evoque, as we reported from New York last year.
