Opel is preparing to launch in the Australian market with three models, the Corsa, Astra and Insignia, and the latter car can be seen here in wagon form with a facelifted nose and tail.
According to information received from Opel's Australian arm, this updated model will not be the vehicle launched in Australia next month, but will follow in due course. It's expected to be powered by a pair of 2.0-litre four-cylinder engines, the turbo petrol outputting 162kW/350Nm, and a frugal turbodiesel unit worth 118kW/350Nm.
Gearbox options will six-speed automatic only - no manual transmission will be offered for the Insignia in Australia.
The model seen in these images has a slightly different chrome bar grille layout than its predecessor say the Carparazzi photographers, which helps bring it in line with changes made to other Opel vehicles, such as the Corsa light car.
The Opel Insignia will compete in the mid-sized car segment currently populated by the Honda Accord Euro, Mazda6, and Toyota Camry, though Opel is pitching its European car as a premium offering and will be hoping to match the Volkswagen Passat.
Pricing for the new Opel Insignia has not been revealed yet but we should know by the end of July 2012, which is when the national launch takes place.
