SPY PICS: Peugeot 4008 - it's a wrap
These spy photos capture a new mini SUV under cooperative development with French operation PSA and MitsubishiThe black garbage bag cladding doesn’t reveal much, but these spy pics reportedly depict the upcoming small SUV from PSA brands Peugeot and Citroen, both based largely on Mitsubishi architecture.
Following the Mitsubishi-PSA cooperation that spawned the Outlander based Peugeot 4007 and Citroen C-Crosser, the slightly smaller SUV will essentially replicate Mitsubishi’s ASX, which is best described as a more tightly-wrapped Outlander.
Like the ASX, the new PSA SUV will target more compact soft-roaders such as Nissan’s Dualis, Skoda Yeti - and even the BMW X1.
Speculation is that the engine line-up will include 2.0-litre petrol and 1.8-litre diesel engines and that both Peugeot and Citroen versions will offer the choice of all-wheel drive or front-wheel drive.
It is expected the Peugeot version will be labelled 4008: There is no word yet on what Citroen might decide to dub its version.
The new SUVs are expected to be introduced to the European market early in 2012, with Australian introduction following in the middle of the same year. The Peugeot version will be priced around $30,000, undercutting the base Peugeot 4007 SUV that starts at less than $35,000..
