SPY PICS: Pug 508 busted

Peugeot's new 'in-between' model spied ahead of Paris Motor Show

Peugeot's upcoming 508, the sedan set to replace both the 407 and 607 models, has been spied testing, well ahead of its concept model's planned debut at this year's Paris Motor Show in September.

Although heavily disguised, our master spy photographers at Carparazzi tell us the new 508 sedan appears to be sleeker, with softer, more aerodynamic lines contrasting the current 'clunky' (their expression, not ours) shape of the existing 407 and 607 models. Carparazzi also told us the new 508 appears to have its headlamps positioned much lower in the front fascia than current Peugeot models, perhaps signalling a new family face for the French manufacturer.

Though we're still a little unsure as to why Peugeot is replacing two models with one -- other than the 607 being a lost cause in the Aussie market -- there has been a lot of speculation that the French manufacturer may be developing a larger, more luxurious flagship model to head the range, perhaps in answer to Renault's recently announced Latitude.

Due to hit the production line in 2011, the 508 will be offered with Peugeot's standard array of petrol and diesel engines, and could even be among the first to feature the brand's new diesel-electric hybrid drivetrain. Technical highlights are rumoured to include head-up display, adaptive headlamps and hydro-pneumatic suspension.
