Skoda’s new electric SUV has been caught in what looks like production-ready form during testing by the Czech brand in its home country.
The spy photos were taken on a Czech motorway, we’re told, close to the manufacturer’s Mlada Boleslav headquarters, showing the new EV in (almost) all its glory, with barely any camo.
Expected to offer a range of around 500km, the new Skoda Enyaq will be powered by the same EV powertrains being deployed in Volkswagen's ID vehicles, such as the ID.4, which is tipped to come to Australia in 2022.
Skoda Australia is planning on rolling out EVs in Oz in the future and while there's no timelines yet, a spokesperson for the brand told carsales.com.au that a vehicle like the Enyaq "would certainly be desirable".
Said to be the production version of Skoda’s Vision iV concept that was unveiled at last year’s Geneva motor show, the Skoda Enyaq doesn’t quite take the same shape as the concept it’s supposedly based off.
Resembling something of a mix between a wagon and SUV, the Enyaq looks just about as funky as its name. More crossover than SUV in our eyes, it’s built off Volkswagen’s MEB platform, which means it will share many parts used by upcoming Volkswagen ID.4.
It should be on sale in Europe by 2021, forming part of Skoda’s promise to introduce ten electrified models by the end of 2022.
Skoda is yet to confirm details surrounding its EV, however, the Enyaq is likely to be offered in both rear- and all-wheel drive layouts. It will share its electric motors, lithium-ion battery packs and control modules with VW’s electric ID. models.
That would mean a range of around 500km (311 miles) and depending on the motor setup, a power output of between 93kW and 150kW, like the VW ID.4.
