SPY PICS: Storming BMW M2 caught
Extreme 2 Series set for global launch late next yearMunich's own 'Little deuce coupe' has surfaced in pre-production form ahead of its late 2015 global launch.
Snapped by the lensman at Automedia, the BMW M2 seen here sported a standard 2 Series front bumper and lacked the twin-exhaust system anticipated will be fitted to the production model. According to the spy photographers the M2 rides on wider tracks, front and rear.
This particular car was betrayed as an M2 by its cross-drilled disc rotors and the brake callipers, which appear to be shared with the new M3 and M4 models.
In line – so to speak – with the M3's migration back to a straight six, the M2 will also feature a six-cylinder powerplant displacing 3.0 litres, which Automedia advises will be coded N55B30T0. The code number indicates the engine belongs to the same family as the TwinPower six in the M235i. As we reported earlier this month, the M2 will be single-turbo only. Dropping the M3's engine into the smaller, lighter body of the M2 would result in a car positioned downmarket of the M4 - yet yielding higher performance. It's a pretty safe bet the M2 will be available with a DCT (dual-clutch transmission) like every other M Car around, and presumably a manual transmission option for no extra charge.
