SPY PICS: Subaru BRZ

Subaru nudges closer to the launch of its BRZ after Nürburgring tests

The highly-anticipated Subaru BRZ – the twin-under-the-skin to Toyota’s FT-86 – has surprised Carparazzi photographers camped nearby Germany’s famed test track, the Nürburgring.

Heavily camouflaged, the prototype looks virtually identical to the FT-86, but is distinguished by a restyled front fascia which appears to include daytime running lamps.

Much like its Toyota cousin the BRZ will be motivated by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder boxer engine, which sources say is good for almost 150kW. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox.

Its expected Subaru could premiere a concept version of the BRZ at next month’s Los Angeles Auto Show with a production model likely to follow at the Tokyo Motor Show later this year.
