With the all-new Trailseeker now here and compact Uncharted due imminently, Subaru essentially has three electric SUVs in local showrooms and insists “all three can thrive together” despite being priced within $4000 of each other.

Subaru’s EV range will soon start from $59,990 plus on-road costs for the compact Uncharted SUV. The established mid-size Solterra meantime starts at $61,990, and the box-fresh Trailseeker (large SUV) from $63,990.
Three models all starting within $4000 of one another sounds like a recipe for disaster for at least one of them, but Subaru Australia general manager Scott Lawrence is adamant the opposite is true.
“All three can thrive together, and we see this as a real strength of our lineup,” he said.
“Each model has been developed with a distinct customer in mind: Uncharted is a spirited sports-style drive, Solterra delivers refinement and everyday usability in a mid-size format, and Trailseeker brings genuine capability and versatility to the large SEV (sports electric vehicle) space.

“The pricing reflects the specification and value built into each model. Customers in this part of the market are choosing based on size, capability and how they’ll use the vehicle, and we’re proud to offer them three compelling answers rather than one.
“These models don't compete with each other, they open the brand up to more customers to consider Subaru, and we’re confident all three will find their audience.”
Both the Solterra and Trailseeker are offered in two guises – AWD and Touring AWD – whereas the smaller, sportier Uncharted is a one-size-fits-all entity supposedly blending the practicality and capability of the Crosstrek with STI-like performance.
None of them are expected to sell as well as their petrol or hybrid counterparts, and there’ll no doubt be winners and losers among them, but Lawrence is nonetheless confident in the strategy.
“We believe having small, medium and large electric SUVs in the range puts Subaru in a strong position.”
Our first drive impressions of the new Trailseeker will go live later today (June 18) while first deliveries of the Uncharted will start in the coming weeks.
