The car shown here will be sold in Europe as the next-generation Toyota Auris from either late next year or early 2013. According to the master spy photographers at Carparazzi, it's a larger car than the current Auris, which we know as the Corolla hatch in Australia.
The new car will almost certainly come here, although 2013 is a more likely start date for the local market than 2012 is. Heavily disguised, the Auris was snapped at Toyota's new testing facility in Belgium. The high bonnet line to meet pedestrian safety standards in 2013 and the iQ-like rear bumper are quite apparent. While the manufacturer is saying nothing, Carparazzi speculates that the new Corolla/Auris will provide a roomier cabin for passengers in the front and rear, and the boot space will be larger too.
In Europe the Auris will be powered by different drivetrains: petrol, diesel, hybrid and possibly battery electric with a range extender. Don't hold out for a diesel version, but the hybrid and plug-in variants might be the right fit for this market by that time.
