SPY PICS: Volkswagen Touareg to debut this year

Volkswagen's third generation Touareg SUV will premiere at the Frankfurt motor show in September, promising enhanced fuel efficient, more advanced drivetrains and added driver-assist technology and new infotainment systems.

Since the concept's preview at Beijing last year, pre-production cars have been spotted testing in Sweden, but the camouflage has been pared back to conceal just the front and rear of the new car. Riding on a lighter 'MLB evo' platform that's shared with Audi Q7, Porsche Cayenne and Bentley Bentayga the Touareg will be lighter than the current model, despite its larger dimensions.

Audi will be fronting up to Frankfurt with an all-new model also, in the form of the new A6, which enters its fifth generation as the 'C8' series. Spy pics reveal a larger greenhouse for the new car, and Audi is reported to have gone all-out improving aerodynamic efficiency through the relocation of exterior mirrors and careful styling of the nose. At some point down the track Audi is expected to introduce an RS 6 version – the only variant in the range to be V8-powered.

Another prospect for Frankfurt is a facelifted BMW i3 with a new colour selection, a new infotainment system and possibly tweaks to extend the vehicle's range in EV (electric vehicle) mode. BMW is also believed to be considering a sporty variant that may or may not be known as the i3S. With a higher output motor, the i3S could rival the Ford Fiesta ST for straight-line performance. The lower-spec i3 will gain a new infotainment system

Suzuki has a facelift in store for its Vitara SUV, as these Swedish spy pics reveal. Few details are known, but it's expected the existing engines will carry over into the new range.
