We photographed it Latest news from 2013 Tokyo Motor Show and now Porsche’s all-new 911 GT2 has been filmed undergoing testing at the Nurburgring.
Caught here completely undisguised, the new GT2 promises to be one of the finest Porsche supercars ever.
Beneath its engine cover will be a more powerful twin-turbo 412kW/750Nm 3.8-litre twin-turbo flat-six and seven-speed dual-clutch PDK gearbox from the new 911 Turbo S.
As is tradition, however, the GT2 will retain a rear-wheel drive layout, making it a Porsche more track-focussed than the 911 Turbo.
But the top-shelf 911 will bring all of the other hardware seen in Porsche’s latest 991-series, including a longer and wider footprint, less weight, electric power steering and four-wheel steering.
In a straight-line the GT2 should undercut the Turbo S, which sprints to 100km/h in just 3.1 seconds and on to 200km/h in 10.3 seconds.
It won’t better the million-dollar 918 Spyder’s sub-seven-minute lap time at the Nurburgring Nordschleife, but should be in the same rapid 7:26 ballpark as the Turbo S.
The GT2 is expected to debut at next year’s Geneva motor show, and the following year Porsche will unleash an even more extreme GT2 RS, which will reportedly kick out in excess of 460kW.
Visually, the GT2 has a much beefier presence than the 911 Turbo, thanks to an aggressive front spoiler/splitter with a large central air intake flanked by generously proportioned brake-cooling ducts.
There’s also an additional duct just ahead of the bonnet, an enlarged air intake to feed the twin-turbo six-pot just ahead of the rear wheel-arch and a substantial fixed wing atop the rear engine cover.
Lower down is a pair of exhaust tips that exit from the centre of car, in contrast to the pair at each rear flank of the Turbo S.
