Stretched Land Rover Defender 130 won’t come cheap

Australian eight-seat SUV range to comprise one diesel, one petrol and one trim level; first local deliveries due early 2023

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) Australia has revealed local pricing, specifications and delivery details for the inbound 2023 Land Rover Defender 130 eight-seat SUV line-up, which will consist of just two variants priced at least $22,500 higher than their equivalent Defender 110 variants.

The Australian order book for both the D300 SE and P400 SE will open in August and the only difference between them is what lurks under the bonnet and their starting prices: $124,150 plus on-road costs for the diesel and $131,650 plus ORCs for the petrol.

As we reported yesterday, the D300 donk is a 3.0-litre turbo-diesel straight six-cylinder churning out a healthy 221kW/650Nm, while the architecturally similar P400 petrol engine’s outputs are 294kW/550Nm.

Both powertrains are the flagships of their respective engine types  and match the rest of the Defender line-up, each paired to an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission with permanent four-wheel drive and a low-range transfer case.

As for trim levels, anyone familiar with the local Defender line-up will be aware the SE grade is the entry-level variant, but the 130 adds to this with a bigger infotainment screen pinched from the Defender V8, a third-row sunroof and height-adjustable adaptive air suspension.

Save for these few extra additions, the rest of the standard equipment should match that of the Defender 90 and 110 SEs with highlights including smartphone mirroring, 20-inch alloy wheels, adaptive cruise control, wireless phone charging, auto-dimming wing mirrors, leather upholstery, hill descent control, Matric LED headlights, 360-degree camera and more.

“We are always listening to our valued customers, as well as analysing sales data, and we feel the SE specification offers our Defender customers a high level of specification which can be further personalised with an extensive range of options and accessories,” a JLR Australia spokesperson said.

While sales will commence on August 1, first deliveries of the new eight-seat Defender 130 aren’t expected to start until the first quarter of 2023.
