Cupra Australia has landed a new entry point to its SUV line-up with the arrival of the 2024 Cupra Ateca V.
Available now and priced at $49,888 drive-away for a limited introductory period, the Ateca V marks a circa-$18,000 saving on the only other variant in the mid-size SUV model range – the Cupra Ateca VZx ($63,490 plus on-road costs).
Following the launch window, the Ateca V will revert to a list price of $51,990 plus ORCs.
Like the Leon V hatch and Formentor V mid-size SUV, the Cupra V comes with a 140kW/320Nm 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine matched as standard to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.
That makes it less powerful than the 221kW/400Nm powertrain in the Ateca VZx, Formentor VZx and (front-drive) Leon VZx.
But standard equipment for the Ateca VZx still extends to 19-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, puddle lights, black leather trim, a powered driver’s seat with memory function, heated front seats, heated steering wheel, powered hands-free tailgate, keyless entry and start, ambient lighting and dual-zone climate control.
Onboard safety features include seven airbags, while driver assist tech includes lane keep assistance, adaptive cruise control and autonomous emergency braking (AEB) with vehicle, pedestrian and cyclist detection, plus rear-cross traffic alert.
Meantime, infotainment provisions include a 9.2-inch centre touch-screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless phone charging and a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster.
The Ateca V does away with the sporty accoutrements of its headier Ateca VZx sibling, but there is an optional ($2900) Tech Pack that adds a surround view camera, Beats nine-speaker audio system and Dynamic Chassis Control (adaptive dampers).
A panoramic sunroof ($1850) and premium metallic paint ($490) are also available.
“This adds a new level of equipment and engine into the car but, as you’d expect with any Cupra, it’s really well equipped even at this starting point,” said Cupra Australia head of product and marketing, Jeff Shafer.
“With its familiar drivetrain, it’s still quite punchy and boasts all-wheel drive.”
Based on the same platform as the Volkswagen Tiguan, the Ateca is regarded as the elder statesman within the Cupra line-up and will not be replaced by a new generation.
Instead, that void is set to be filled with the forthcoming Terramar and Tavascan electric SUVs.
