A year after the Subaru Outback entered a new generation in Australia, the Japanese brand has announced an upgraded MY22 series that brings additional spec and corresponding price increases as well.
The updated large SUV model range also heralds a new Premium Special Edition priced at $44,190 plus on-road costs, which bridges the gap between the base Outback – now priced from $40,690 – and the mid-range Sport (from $45,190).
The base 2022 Subaru Outback and the Sport have both copped a $700 price hike, while the top-spec Touring – now at $48,990 plus ORCs – has pushed up by $1200 compared to its launch price.
There is no sign of a more rugged Wilderness edition as seen overseas, nor are there any mechanical updates such as a more powerful 195kW 2.4-litre turbo-petrol engine to crown the range, which relies solely on a 138kW 2.5-litre non-turbo powertrain.
Over the base Outback, the special-edition model adds a powered tailgate, satellite navigation, black Nappa leather-accented seat trim and heated seats for the driver, front passenger and outboard rear seat occupants.
For the rest of the range, only minor detail changes have been made, such as a new seatback pocket design and updated colour palette, with Sapphire Blue Peal replacing Dark Blue Pearl.
The base model also now has a black centre cap for its carryover 18-inch alloy wheels, while the Touring gains ventilated front seats and a manually adjustable thigh support extender for the driver.
