Suzuki Baleno Shadow now on sale

The 2022 Suzuki Baleno Shadow has emerged – a limited-edition model designed to keep the compact hatchback in the spotlight as it nears the end of its current generation.

Revealed via Instagram and detailed on the Japanese brand’s public website, the main selling point of the Suzuki Baleno Shadow is its black body kit and matching 16-inch alloy wheels.

The auto-only Shadow is also limited to 300 cars in Australia, adding to its exclusivity.

The extra styling goodies do wonders for the Baleno’s appearance, but they also drive up the asking price from $20,990 drive-away (for the GL automatic) to $26,890 drive-away.

That price is also considerably higher than the flagship GLX, which starts at $23,490 drive-away and has more equipment including climate-control air-con, keyless entry/start, an advanced multi-info display and telescopic steering wheel adjustment.

It doesn’t have a body kit, but the GLX also arguably offers a better drive with its LED headlights and rear disc brakes (the Shadow has halogen lights and rear drum brakes).

All Baleno models are powered by a 68kW/130Nm 1.4-litre four-cylinder engine, paired with a four-speed auto in Shadow/GLX guise.

The auto is optional on GX, which is fitted standard with a five-speed manual.

Just two colours are being offered on the Shadow – Arctic White (no-cost) and Premium Silver ($595).

The Baleno is one of the most popular models in the light car segment, with more than 5000 sales so far this year (to the end of July) which places it second only to the MG3 (9480).
