Suzuki Celerio: Braking fault found, fix on way

Suzuki says it’s found the problem that caused brake failures on the new Celerio

Suzuki has identified a possible fault with the brake pedal release mechanism as the cause of a total failure of stopping power from high speed.

In a press release issued earlier today Suzuki confirmed not only that it had found a fault, but a rectification is on the way and that the delivery of modified brake components is expected in the “coming weeks”.

Originally due for release last week Down Under, the diminutive five-door will now not be released for sale until Suzuki has resolved brake issues that led to its withdrawal in the UK, Ireland and New Zealand.

Curiously, the fault has not affected right-hand drive Celerios in India and Thailand where the small Suzuki hatch is made.

The withdrawal follows brake failures which occurred during high-speed braking from 130km/h during testing by British car magazine, Autocar.

Suzuki Australia General Manager, Andrew Moore, told motoring.com.au last week that the company would not release the first batch of 100 cars until a fix is found.

The new Celerio, which replaces the Alto, will be offered here in both five-speed manual and CVT automatic form, priced at $12,990 and $13,990 drive-away respectively.
