Suzuki releases diesel Vitara under $36K

Small SUV now available with 1.6-litre diesel offering 320Nm and sub-5L/100km fuel economy

Suzuki Australia has announced an RT-X variant of the Vitara SUV, powered by a 1.6-litre four-cylinder diesel and driving through all four wheels via a six-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Priced from $35,990, the Vitara RT-X Diesel is the flagship model in the range and develops 88kW and 320Nm for a combined-cycle fuel consumption figure of just 4.9L/100km.

Standard features comprise a dual panoramic sunroof, Apple Carplay, 17-inch polished alloy wheels, LED headlights and leather/suede seats. Additionally, the Vitara RT-X Diesel includes privacy glass, a knee airbag for the driver and satellite navigation.

“The addition of turbo engines to the exciting Vitara has seen demand for the vehicle grow even further," said Andrew Moore, general manager of Suzuki Australia Automobiles.

"We’ve listened to our customers who have been asking for a diesel option, so are excited we can deliver. By adding this diesel engine variant to the line up, the Vitara now has a comprehensive range of engine and price options to suit any customer.”

“With the popularity of Vitara rapidly growing plus the introduction of our first small segment hatch, Baleno, to compete with Corolla and i30, Suzuki’s growth is set to continue.”

“Now that Turbo and Diesel have been added to Vitara, along with the new Baleno to come with a turbo engine and a larger naturally aspirated petrol engine set for Australia (than what was released this week in Europe), Suzuki will have some of the sportiest performers for small segment passenger and SUV customers.”

The Vitara range kicks off with the front-wheel drive RT-S model, priced at $22,990 driveaway. With an automatic option for 2015-plated models the RT-S is priced at $24,990 driveaway. Until June, Suzuki Australia is offering driveaway pricing on both those variants and the front-wheel drive Vitara S Turbo.

Prices listed below apply to the whole Vitara range, excluding on-road costs:

Vitara RT-S Manual – $21,990
Vitara RT-S Automatic – $23,990
Vitara S Turbo 2WD Automatic – $28,990
Vitara S Turbo 4WD Automatic – $32,990
Vitara RT-X Diesel Automatic TCSS – $35,990
