Celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2022, the Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 is one of Porsche’s most iconic models. To mark the occasion, two distinctive TAG Heuer Carrera x Porsche Limited Edition watches have been launched, showcasing the signature features that have made both the sports car and the chronograph timeless objects of desire.
The limited-edition watches are based on the 42-mm TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph with its tri-compax layout, minutes and hour chronograph counters at 3 and 9 o’clock and a permanent second indicator and date window at 6 o’clock.
Inspired by the Porsche 911 Carrera, TAG Heuer has equipped its premier chronograph with its most advanced movement, the in-house manufactured Calibre Heuer 02, with a power reserve of 80 hours. Visible through the sapphire crystal case back, the movement’s oscillating mass has been designed to look like Porsche’s three-spoke steering wheel.
The Sporty Blue Edition is limited to 500 pieces, marked with a limitation number. The finely polished steel case, rhodium-plated indexes and hour and minute hands pay tribute to the car’s chrome door handles, mirrors, and window frames.
The Sporty Red Edition is even more limited, with only 250 pieces available. The case is 18K 5N rose gold, as are the crown, pushers, and screw-down sapphire case back. The shimmery white dial is framed with a Guards Red circular line and features rose-gold coloured applied indexes, permanent second indicator and hour and minute hands.
Revealed on October 5, 1972, and designed for racing and rallying, the Carrera RS was the first Porsche 911 dedicated to motorsport and nicknamed “Carrera”. The Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 hit the market at the end of the first generation of the 911 and at the time was the fastest German production car of its day. Lightweight and aerodynamic, it was also the first road sports car in the world to have a front and rear spoiler (soon to be known as the ducktail).
Only 1580 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 and RSR 2.7 were ever produced, in a range of 27 colours evocative of the 1970s, two of which were selected for the TAG Heuer limited-edition watches; Indischrot (Guards Red) and Glasurblau (Glacier Blue).
The Tag Heuer Carrera X Porsche RS 2.7 in Sporty Blue will set you back $11,200 while the version in Sporty Red costs $34,100. The two collectors’ timepieces are presented in specially designed co-branded packaging from TAG Heuer x Porsche and are available now until sold out from TAG Heuer boutiques, tagheuer.com and at select retail partners.
