Tarago scores five stars in ANCAP testing

Toyota people mover applauded by crash testing authority

The Toyota Tarago has joined a select group of MPVs providing optimum occupant safety, as rated by local crash testing body, ANCAP.

In the latest test conducted by ANCAP — the Australasian New Car Assessment Programme — the Toyota turned out an impressive result that netted a five-star rating, placing it in the same category as the Citroen C4 Picasso and Mercedes-Benz Viano.

Toyota upgraded the Tarago about 12 months ago, enhancing the standard safety specification with the addition of a driver's kneebag, stability control and side-curtain airbags. Tested subsequently by ANCAP, the Tarago passed the punishing pole test with relative ease, courtesy of the side curtain airbags.

“That pole test was successful – the vehicle’s passenger compartment held its shape well through the different frontal and side impact tests,” said ANCAP Chair, Lauchlan McIntosh.

“This rating is a further step for Toyota in improving the safety performance of vehicles in its fleet, and follows the five-star rating for the Toyota Camry and Camry Hybrid earlier this year – this is good news for new car buyers.”
