If predictions of a future in which rising sea levels, battles over water supplies and wars that ravage arable land come to pass, the Tesla Model X could be the vehicle of choice.
According to Tesla, the new SUV not only has clever falcon-wing doors but the world's most advanced air filtration system – so much so that "You can literally survive a military grade bio attack by sitting in your car".
We had a good sticky beak at the new Tesla Model X at the 2016 Geneva motor show, where it was claimed the vehicle was world's safest SUV, and these new claims suggest it will also not only clean highly toxic air inside the vehicle, but outside it too.
Indeed, the Californian electric car company reckons its new military-grade air-filtration unit, when switched to BioWeapon Defence Mode, "will also clean the air outside your car, making things better for those around you".
The same air-filtering system has also been fitted to new Model S sedans too.
"Tesla will continue to improve the micro-geometry and chemical passivation defenses in the primary and secondary filters, which are easily replaceable, so this will get better the longer you own your car."
When the question was posed as to how much these filter replacements will cost, Tesla didn’t have an answer, suggesting owners could be slugged big bickies for their zombie apocalypse-proof protection systems.
The Model X is expected to arrive in Australia late this year and will priced from around $160,000. It will also be joined by the new mid-size Model 3, which will be more reasonably priced at around $65,000 when it lands here in 2018.
Until then, if a zombie apocalypse does eventuate, Tesla's Model S has you covered with an air-cleaning system able to capture "fine particulate matter and gaseous pollutants, as well as bacteria, viruses, pollen and mold spores"
Always be wary of spores…
