Ten-month wait for new Honda HR-V e:HEV

And the small hybrid SUV’s asking price has also gone up just three months after its local launch

Honda Australia has revealed that wait times for the new 2022 Honda HR-V e:HEV L have blown out from six to 10 months amid unprecedented consumer demand and some of the most challenging market conditions the industry has ever seen.

The revelation came when carsales contacted Honda about the price increases being applied to certain models within the range, including the flagship compact SUV that was slapped with a $2000 hike as of August 1.

Honda says the increases “are reflective of the current market conditions, with demand continuing to exceed forecast production levels and the global supply chain continuing to be impacted by parts shortages, rising raw material and energy prices and other logistics challenges”.

The less than subtle increase has bumped the Honda HR-V e:HEV L’s starting price up to $47,000 drive-away, however, the brand has assured carsales all pre-existing orders will be price-protected.

“Honda’s price protection policy will apply to any contracts signed prior to the change, where the vehicle is yet to be delivered,” a spokesperson said.

“This means there will be no change for customers who signed a contract prior to August 1 – the drive-away price will remain unchanged at the pre-price-rise level.”

According to the spokesperson, the backlog of HR-V hybrid orders is so long that all of the cars delivered in Australia this year will be handed over at the original $45,000 launch price (pending optional extras, etc).

The flagship HR-V isn’t the only Honda model with an expansive lead time though; customers of the new 2022 Honda Accord VTi-LX Hybrid are still being faced with a 10-month wait, which could make things interesting given a new-generation Accord is set to arrive next year.

Honda Accord

Another victim of the August 1 price increase, the electrified Accord’s asking price is now up to $61,900 drive-away (+$1500), but not the internal combustion version; that stayed put at $57,400 drive-away.

Likewise, the HR-V Vi X has held firm and still starts from $36,700 drive-away.
