Euro NCAP has announced it has awarded the full five star safety rating to the Tesla Model 3, Skoda Scala, Mercedes B-Class and GLE in the latest round of crash testing.
Not every car scored the full five out of five stars, with Europe's new DS3 Crossback SUV and Kia Ceed only managing a four rating, although that score was booted back up to the full five with an optional safety pack added.
Scoring what Euro NCAP described as the "perfect score" for the frontal offset barrier crash test, the Model 3 impressed with its "superb" driver assistance systems, including its autonomous emergency braking.
The Model 3's 94 per cent score for its safety systems is said to be its highest score awarded yet under the new test regime.
The smaller Skoda Scala, meanwhile, was actually judged safer than the Model 3 in overall crash performance with its 97 per cent score that means it is level-pegging with the Mercedes A-Class and the Mazda3.
Speaking of Mercedes, the German car-maker will no doubt be celebrating its recent top marks of the B-Class and GLE -- its 10th and 11th full five-star result since 2014.
That's not something that could be said for Citroen's DS 3 model, which missed out on the coveted final fifth star for lacking drive assist features – something in the European market that can be remedied by paying extra for the optional safety pack.
The same issue was said to have caught out Kia.
