Tesla Model 3 gets the chop
Aftermarket US firm takes gas axe to Model 3 - for a huge priceCalifornian-based Newport Convertible Engineering (NCE) has announced it will soon offer a drop-top version of the latest Tesla Model 3.
Releasing pictures of one of its first converted sedans, NCE says the process to create a convertible is a lengthy one, with each car taking around 2-3 months to complete.
The process involves the removal of the Model 3's interior and the installation of bracing and reinforcements to the Tesla's upper body structure, most of which has been cut away.
Once the folding convertible roof is added, the firm then conducts a series of tests to ensure it is watertight.
There's no claims for how chopping the roof off has affected structural rigidity but NCE has fashioned a rollover hoop using the standard car's B-pillar.
Even the most basic conversion with a manual hood doesn't come cheap, with the Californian firm charging $29,500 ($A45,000) for its services.
If you want an electric roof for your pure-electric Model 3, prepare to part with $39,500 ($60,500).
NCE, says it will build and distribute its convertible Model 3s anywhere in the world.
