Tesla to hit Aussie roads by spring
Electric car company confirms Australia base and launch dateGround-breaking sportscar company Tesla has revealed to the Carsales Network that it will arrive in Australia to begin selling cars in spring later this year. Sydney has been chosen as the location of the first Tesla store Down Under, as the electric vehicle brand expands its global operation.
Following yesterday's revelation that the Roadster will be sold in Australia, more news has come through about the company's plans. Tesla spokeswoman Rachel Konrad has told the Carsales Network the homologation of the Roadster is already well underway.
Although specific details are still to be locked in, she did confirm that Tesla has appointed Rudi Tuisk, an Australian who has been working for the company in Europe, as the General Manager of the Australian operation.
He is currently in California at Tesla's headquarters, completing more details before he heads back to Australia. While Sydney has been confirmed as the launching pad for the car, no location or timing has been announced for the dealership. What Konrad did confirm though was that the Roadster will be available during spring, meaning a launch could come as early as September.
Pricing is also being kept under wraps as the plans are finalised and homologation of the car completed.
