It is regarded as one of the greatest racetracks in the world, the Mount Panorama circuit in Bathurst, NSW became a special part of Honda Australia’s history when F1 World Champion Jenson Button set a benchmark lap time for a front-wheel drive production car around the track in a Civic Type R a little over 12 months ago.
To commemorate this incredible feat, The Brickman has recreated the legendary race track entirely from LEGO with a bit of a Honda twist.
The LEGO creation of Mount Hondarama is 3.3 metres long and 1.8 metres wide, weighs approximately 210 kilograms and took a team of eight builders over 650 hours to construct, using more than 150,000 bricks. Now that would have been one epic challenge on the TV series for sure!
Mount Hondarama sees a cleverly constructed circuit featuring all its famous trademarks from the Mount Panorama lettering to Pit Straight and even Forest Elbow.
It also includes many of Honda’s iconic cars and SUVs including the Civic Type R, original NSX, Integra, original Civic, Prelude and CR-V. Honda motorcycles, lawnmowers and even boat motors have been transformed into LEGO along with a Honda dealership and the unique HondaJet hovering above the track.
The team also used the extremely rare LEGO remote control cars to create a racing set which can be driven around the track.
“The biggest challenge for us this year is the fact that we’ve got lots of moving pieces. Moving parts are very challenging to do with LEGO, let alone having cars actually racing around a LEGO model,” said Ryan ‘The Brickman’ McNaught.
“Our mantra is to grab people’s attention with something obvious and then hold their attention with lots of special details and fun things. One of the great things about LEGO bricks is that you can bring dreams to life and that’s exactly what we’ve been able to do with all of Honda’s products.”
Last year The Brickman transformed a Civic Type R into a life-size LEGO model using more than 320,000 bricks and took over 1,300 hours to create. We do have a soft-spot for LEGO and cars so you can check out our list of favourite models and recreations here.
