Whether you’re a tennis fan or don’t know your backhands from your ball kids, it’s always fun to indulge in how the other half lives. It’s no secret that tennis stars are earning some pretty good coin – the prize pool for the 2024 AO alone is said to be more than $86 million – so there’s no reason why they should be going from court to court in a beat-up old Honda.
But while many have (seemingly) unlimited funds, not all of them are splashing out on a lavish set of wheels… so let’s ignore them and check out the ones that are because that’s much more fun…
Starting strong with one of the most decorated in the game, Novak Djokovic. It’s probably no surprise that the highest-ranking player in the world, who is reportedly worth an eye-watering $240 million, owns an impressive array of vehicles, ranging from electric vehicles to, well, far less economical machines.
The more environmentally friendly options include an electric Peugeot e-208, which Djokovic was gifted as part of a multi-year partnership with the French car-maker, as well as a Tesla Model X.
A Fiat 500 is also reportedly parked in the garage, alongside a Mercedes-Benz S-Class, BMW 5 Series Touring, a V12-powered Aston Martin DB9, and an Audi R8. Something for every day of the week, then.
Polish-born Iga Swiatek is currently the highest-ranking female tennis player in the world, so it’s only fitting she travels around in style. Signing a multi-year deal with Porsche Poland, Swiatek says it’s a natural fit for her to partner with the luxury sports car maker, describing it as ‘recognition of her performances on the court’.
But which Porsche model does she drive? A fully electric Taycan Turbo S Cross Turismo, of course, which she won at the 2023 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart, a title she’ll be looking to defend this April.
“I have so much fun driving this car and support, just like the Porsche brand, the values and feelings conveyed by tennis. Such partnerships are a good opportunity to infect people with passion and enthusiasm,” said Swiatek.
Cycling through the range, Swiatek was also seen getting around in a Cayenne Turbo GT in the US late last year.
He’s the highest-ranking tennis player in Greece but although Tsitsipas is best known for his skills on the court, it turns out, he’s also quite the rev (and EV) head. Tsitsipas currently resides in Monte Carlo and that’s where he was spotted last year cruising around in none other than an Aston Martin V12 Speedster… a limited-edition supercar with a super $1.5m price tag.
But while it’s unclear if he owns it, or rented it, the 25-year-old Greek tennis star described his love affair for the British marque in a 2022 interview.
“It has this kind of class and simplicity, and it doesn’t try to say too much with too many things and keeps it simple yet elegant at the same time,” said Tsitsipas.
And, while he’s owned a Tesla Model 3 (and named it Julia after his mother), he has also gifted his father an Aston Martin DBX.
While he’s not playing at this year’s Australian Open, we couldn’t go past Nick Kyrgios and his sweet collection of metal. There’s some American muscle, in the form of a Dodge SRT Demon, complete with underbody neon lights and a matte black paint job, as well as a Tesla Model X, for good measure.
A little more oriental, is the Canberra-born star’s Nissan GT-R (R35 generation). He’s also reported to own a private jet, because who wants to fly on those pesky Boeings?
She’s a former women’s world number one, but tennis star Aryna Sabalenka also happens to be a car lover. At just 25 years old, she’s rumoured to own a Lamborghini Aventador S, a Mercedes-Benz G-Class, and a BMW (undisclosed model). Sabalenka said in a 2023 press conference that although her mum drives her cars, she’s keen to add a Porsche to the collection.
She can also be seen flaunting a Lamborghini Urus in Florida in a photo posted to her Instagram account last year.
We had to add Federer to this list, because even though he retired from professional tennis in 2022, his illustrious career has led many to argue that he could be the greatest tennis player of all time, and he LOVES cars!
Especially cars built by Mercedes-Benz. With a long-term affiliation with the German luxury brand under this belt, Federer has a garage filled with Benz models, from the iconic AMG G-Wagen to the sportier GT S. He’s also got an SL Roadster, a GLE 63 S performance SUV, and an SLS Roadster.
Just to spice up the mix, he’s also got a Range Rover Sport SVR.
