Maserati has launched three new coach-built versions of its new 2023 Maserati GranTursismo at the Milan Design Week in Italy.
The Maserati GranTurismo One Off Prisma, GranTurismo One Off Luce and a virtual model of the GranTurismo One Off Ouroboros are all said to draw design cues from the Trident brand’s illustrious past.
The most striking of the bespoke trio of coupes is the Maserati GranTurismo One Off Ouroboros, which was presented as a digital model at the prestigious Italian design show.
Created in partnership with Japanese artist and fashion designer Hiroshi Fujiwara, the one-off Maserati is said to feature a grille inspired by the 1954 A6GCS Berlinetta Pininfarina, side vents off the '57 3500GT, round headlights borrowed from the 1962 Type 151 racer and interlinked tail-lights inspired by the early 1980s Shamal.
Even the forged alloy wheels pay tribute to the Bora supercar that was sold over 1971-1978.
As well as co-creating the one-off GranTurismo, which is based on the all-electric Folgore version of the new coupe, Fujiwara designed a capsule collection of T-shirts, hoodies and sweatpants that are said to pay homage to Maserati’s Modena HQ and his Tokyo home.
There's no confirmation, but if a buyer expresses interest in the GranTurismo One Off Ouroboros it’s thought Maserati will go ahead and build it.
Commenting on his new creation Hiroshi Fujiwara, said: “GranTurismo Ouroboros has been conceived as a visual and cultural link between the various eras of Maserati design and the current GranTurismo generation.
“We worked with the Maserati team to connect the pinnacle of tech and performance that they have today with the icons of style that generated and fuelled the myth through the decades”.
The two other special GranTurismos were designed in-house by Centro Stile – Maserati's own design department.
The Maserati GranTurismo One Off Prismo is reminiscent of the famous Volkswagen Harlequin specials, featuring an exterior painted with 14 different colours. Again, only two of the hues are new, with the rest plucked from the car-maker’s 108-year-old back-catalogue.
Look closer and you’ll see there are 8500 hand-written letters naming every single one of the Maserati models made over the near 11 decades of racing and manufacturing.
Based on the GranTurismo Trofeo, the special coupe boasts a 410kW twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6.
The final bespoke coupe is the GranTurismo One-off Luce which is also based on the battery-powered 560kW Folgore. It boasts a highly reflective mirror finish that includes unusual laser-etched dots.
The interior of the special GranTurismo, meanwhile, includes yet more laser etching for its sustainable Econyl fabric trim.
Maserati has yet to detail the fate of all three individual one-offs, other than to confirm that they will embark on a world tour to help showcase and promote the endless possibilities of its Fuoriserie bespoke and personalisation division.
