TOKYO MOTOR SHOW: Four Suzuki concepts

Suzuki to unveil four new concept cars at next month's Tokyo show

Suzuki has pre-revealed four new concept cars ahead of their world public debuts at the 43rd Tokyo motor show on November 20.

The headline act is a compact crossover dubbed the Crosshiker, which Suzuki says “fuses fresh new styling with a dynamic weight reduction and highly-efficient powertrain”.

Presented as an alternative to the lightweight REGINA/G70 technology concept first seen at the 2011 Tokyo show, it weighs just 810kg and is powered by a new three-cylinder 1.0-litre engine.

Next up is “a real 4WD hybrid” based on the Jimny and called the X-LANDER. Powered by a 1.3-litre engine matched with a new automated manual transmission, it “incorporates a compact lightweight hybrid system equipped with a highly-efficient motor built onto a 4WD system”.

Lastly there will be two Hustler mini-cars designed to cater for “the active lifestyle of people who love the nature, love the outdoors and love sports”.

No details have been provided for the boxy five-door Hustler or the Hustler Coupe, which also has five doors but adds a sloping roofline, Suzuki describing it only as “a stylish yet practical design with plenty of SUV touches, combining an exterior that looks like it belongs in the outdoors with a roomy, comfortable and useful interior.”

The four new concepts will be shown alongside the iV-4 concept, which debuted at September’s Frankfurt motor show and is smaller than both the Grand Vitara and the new SX4 S-Cross that goes on sale here in December.
