TOKYO MOTOR SHOW: Mazda to unveil sports car concept

Latest show car to showcase Japanese brand’s ‘unique approach to driving pleasure’

Mazda will pull the covers off an exciting new ‘sports car concept’ model at the upcoming Tokyo Motor Show.

Said to be of modern design, though maintaining a sense of lineage and authenticity, the new concept echoes much of the brand’s sports car history, ‘appearing to almost to condense Mazda’s entire history of sports car development into a single model’, according to the press release.

Created in line with Mazda’s Tokyo show theme for 2015 – Accelerate toward our dreams – the sports car concept will no doubt reignite the potential for rotary power in Mazda’s sports car future.

The KOERU crossover concept will join the sports car concept by making its Japanese debut after impressing at Frankfurt in September. Other stand highlights will include two race-spec MX-5s (one from the Global MX-5 Cup series) and a classic rotary-powered Cosmo 110S from 1967, while several SKYACTIV technology exhibits will also appear.

Mazda will also have a presence as part of the SMART MOBILITY CITY 2015, a concept that has been part of the Tokyo show since 2011. Mazda’s contribution will be its human-centred machine interface, omni-directional steering concept and the brand’s latest proactive safety tech.

The Tokyo Motor Show runs from October 30 until November 8. Stay tuned for full show coverage at motoring.com.au.
