Tough 2025 Isuzu MU-X XT confirmed for Aus
Isuzu Ute Australia swaps out ‘RS’ for ‘XT’ badging and toughens up the MU-XDetails of the new 2025 Isuzu MU-X have been leaked by dealer staff ahead of the new model’s arrival next month, including the presence of a new ‘XT’ halo.
Whether or not ‘XT’ stands for ‘X-Terrain’ remains to be seen, but carsales has it on good authority the new flagship is a rebadged version of the top-spec RS offered in Thailand and the wagon equivalent of the D-Max X-Terrain.
That means red accents, stitching and graphics for the interior and a swathe of black exterior appointments – wheels, mirrors, roof, light clusters, bezels, wheel-arch extensions, grille – intended to toughen up the already angrier front and rear aprons.
You can bet all the ‘RS’ badging inside and out will be replaced by ‘XT’ lettering in tandem with the red detailing mentioned above – in place of the RS’ lime green.
Homologation data for the new MU-X makes no mention of the new 2.2-litre ‘MaxForce’ turbo-diesel engine that’s already replacing the base 1.9-litre mill in some markets, meaning both the 1.9 and the bigger 3.0-litre unit Aussies know and love will be retained for the time being.
Pricing for the new range is yet to be announced officially but is expected to start from the high $50,000s before on-road costs for the 4x4 versions, with the XT tipped to start from about $74,000 drive-away.
Odds are the XT will be based on the LS-T trim, meaning there’ll be heated leather seats with power adjustment, a powered tailgate, an eight-speaker sound system, parking sensors all-round, wireless Apple CarPlay, sat-nav, dual-zone climate control and remote start.
A black headliner should also feature, along with the new 7.0-inch digital driver’s display as seen in the 2024 Isuzu D-Max X-Terrain ute.
Range-wide 2025 MU-X enhancements meantime include new seats, a new-generation 9.0-inch infotainment system with physical tuning knobs and haptic controls in place of the old button arrangement, a 360-degree camera for select grades, reverse automatic emergency braking and the latest version of Rough Terrain Mode.
Such upgrades will undoubtedly come at a cost compared to the outbound model which starts from $47,400 plus on-road costs for the LS-M 4x2 and tops out at $73,990 drive-away for the special edition Tour Mate.
