Toyota hikes service prices

Australia’s biggest auto brand increases its service prices by up to 25 per cent

Servicing a Toyota has just got a lot more expensive.

While the cost of buying some new Toyota vehicles headed north in 2023 (including the Toyota Kluger, which is now at least $2000 pricier than before), Toyota has also quietly increased service prices across its range by as much as 25 per cent.

The service price increases affect every model in the sprawling Toyota line-up, which continues to attract wait times extending into 2024 following a near-record sales year for Australia’s top auto brand, from the entry-level Yaris to the range-topping LandCruiser 300 Series.

Increases range from six per cent for the Kluger large SUV to 25.6 per cent for the Yaris hatchback.

Some of the affected models – the GR86 sports coupe and Corolla Cross small SUV – were only launched a few months ago, but anyone purchasing one today will need to pay about seven per cent more for each service.

The biggest price hikes add $50 per service for the Yaris, HiLux, HiAce and Granvia. Servicing the new LandCruiser 300 Series, which only went on sale late in 2021, now costs $25 more.

That means it costs at least $800 a year to service a LandCruiser 300– or more if you travel further than 20,000km.

Toyota’s capped price servicing is among the cheapest in the industry, in part because head office subsidises its dealers.

However, many Toyotas also have relatively short six-month/10,000km service intervals, which means at least two services per year – or more for those travelling more than 20,000km annually.

Toyota Australia’s vice-president of sales, marketing and franchise operations Sean Hanley says the service price increases are due to inflationary pressures.

“[The service price hikes are due to] The rise of prices on parts, inflation, labour rates – all we’re doing is making essentially a CPI adjustment,” he said.

The price rises don’t affect anyone who bought a new Toyota prior to the start of 2023. Instead, they’ll pay the price they were quoted when they purchased their vehicle.

“The people that have Toyota Service Advantage, they’re protected,” says Hanley. “It’ll be on the arrangement they had when they bought the car.”
