New financial year also brings price hikes from Mazda, VW, Lexus, Nissan, BMW and LDV
Toyota Australia has upped the prices for most of its model range amid “inflationary pressures”, and the only nameplates unaffected by the July 1 increases are the Toyota GR86, Prado, C-HR and LandCruiser 70 Series.
The world’s biggest car-maker and Australia’s number one auto brand said it was reluctant to increase prices but its hand was forced by “more expensive raw materials, labour, tooling and packaging”.
No two model lines have increased by the same amount, with the entry-level Yaris light car fittingly attracting the smallest increase of $160 across the board, elevating the pint-size hatchback’s starting price to $24,800 (plus on-road costs, as with all prices listed here).
The same goes for its SUV counterpart, the Yaris Cross, which now opens from $28,000, whereas the next-size-up Corolla Cross has risen by $980 across the board and now starts at $33,980.
Its Corolla hatchback sibling meantime has had $980 slapped onto its asking prices (now from $29,610) while the sedans escape with a more modest $640 increase (from $29,270).
The biggest increases go to the GR Yaris and GR Corolla (+$1890), closely followed by the Camry (from $34,320) and Fortuner (from $53,775), all variants of which are up $1830 and $1810 respectively.
HiLux price jumps were far more modest and a little more varied – ranging between $560-1100 depending on the variant – and the same goes for the Kluger, prices for which went up by between $247 and $670.
The Kluger was also an outlier in that one variant is actually cheaper as of July 1 – the Grande AWD, which reduces to $75,650 (-$470).
Amid continued extended wait times, RAV4 prices increased by $1710 across the range, while an extra $1620 was added to the starting price of every LandCruiser 300 Series variant.
Despite its identity as Toyota’s flagship performance offering, the GR Supra was treated to one of the more modest increases ($380), meaning the two-door sports car now starts from $87,380.
All HiAce variants have gone up by between $760 or $1110 apiece, while the Granvia people-mover has been hiked by $690.
However, Toyota wasn’t the only brand to up its prices for the new financial year.
Mazda slapped $600 on the asking prices of all CX-5, CX-8, MX-5 and Mazda6 variants, while Lexus has tacked an extra $500 and $850 onto the hybrid UX and NX variants respectively.
BMW is in on the action too, with a $5000 increase for its flagship iX electric SUV.
Nissan has added $500 to all Navara and X-TRAIL sticker prices, while LDV and VW have added more than $2500 to the bulk of their respective van offerings.
