Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series hybrid here in 2026

Petrol-electric of Toyota’s hero 4x4 finally debuts and is on its way

The long-awaited 2025 Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series Hybrid has finally been shown to the world and will arrive Down Under in the first half of next year as the most powerful LandCruiser to date.

Sourcing its force-fed 3.5-litre V6 petrol-electric powertrain from the Toyota Tundra behemoth and upmarket Lexus LX, the LandCruiser ‘performance hybrid’ outputs a combined 326kW/790Nm – more than enough to see-off the 317kW/700Nm Y63 Nissan Patrol.

As per its TNGA-F relatives, drive is sent to all four wheels by a 10-speed automatic transmission and full-time 4x4 system.

Toyota Australia is keeping its cards close to its chest for the time being and confirmed little more than the model’s rough ETA, however order books in some overseas markets like the UAE have already opened, revealing the gutsy powertrain will only be offered on select trim levels.

The local expectation is for those trim levels to be the high-end Sahara ZX and GR Sport off-road flagships, but we’d be more than happy to be shown otherwise.

“The LandCruiser’s performance hybrid powertrain has been developed with true off-road capability and reliability front of mind, with the electric motor able to provide smooth and even throttle response even in the toughest of terrain,” Toyota said.

“Further details on the new LandCruiser will be made available closer to its Australian introduction in the first half of 2026.”

Naturally, the electrified 300 Series will be noticeably more expensive than its diesel equivalents on account of the extra technology within and the resulting performance gains, though the current version’s 3500kg braked towing capacity will almost certainly be carried over untouched.

With the LandCruiser Hybrid now confirmed for our market, it should only be a matter of time before the more opulent Lexus LX700h is locked in for an Aussie introduction.
