Toyota Prado facelift leaked

Midlife makeover for Australia's top-selling large SUV

UPDATE 11:20am: Toyota has confirmed it will issue a global press release to officially announce the upgraded Prado late on Monday (August 26). A Toyota Australia spokesman confirmed the vehicle in these images is not exactly what will be sold here, but its new-look headlights -- including their plunging LED running light design -- will feature on Australia's 2014 Prado.

Unofficial images of what appears to be a mid-cycle facelift for Toyota's Prado, Australia’s top-selling large SUV, have surfaced on the internet, courtesy of a Russian LandCruiser fan site, toyota-lc.ru.

Toyota is yet to confirm whether the vehicle in the image has any bearing on the upgraded Prado expected to go on sale in Australia next year, five years after the current generation was released here in 2009.

Patent filing line drawings of the Prado’s mechanical twin -- the Lexus GX, which is not sold in Australia – have also been leaked, also revealing new front- and rear-end design changes, punctuated by fashionable LED daytime running lights.

Save for the adventurous new headlight, grille and tail-light designs, few revisions are expected for one of Toyota Australia’s biggest selling models, which is likely to continue with 3.0-littre turbo-diesel and 4.0-litre V6 petrol power here.
