Toyota recalls FJ Cruiser
Retro off-roader's fuel breather too close to exhaustToyota has issued a recall notice for the FJ Cruiser, the company's homage to the original FJ40 LandCruiser.
Underpinned by Prado running gear, the FJ Cruiser is powered by a petrol V6 and comes with main and sub tanks for long-range touring. According to Toyota, a breather tube linking the main and sub tanks passes close to the engine's exhaust.
Due to a combination of 'incorrect material' and the proximity of the breather tube to the exhaust, the breather could fail and leak fuel. In that event, a fire may break out at the rear of the vehicle.
Toyota is recalling all FJ Cruisers sold here and built between October 12, 2012 and February 14, 2014. Based on VFACTS figures over 7600 vehicles are believed to be affected by the recall. Toyota will contact owners by mail and the breather tube will be replaced at the nearest convenient dealership.
The VIN (Vehicle Identification Range) runs from JTE BU11F# 0K152934 to 0K192400 and a program for vehicle repairs will commence from the middle of next month.
