Tribeca goes mainstream

Subaru has bitten the bullet and wiped the face off its SUV

As tipped here at the Carsales Network (more here), Subaru's has radically changed the look of its Tribeca SUV.

The seven-seat wagon was launched to some outcry with Subaru's controversial three-element 'aeroplane' nose. Now, along with the arrival of a bigger, torquier 3.6-litre six-cylinder engine, the Tribeca's face has been wiped clean and replaced with a significantly more conventional styling job.

The new Tribeca will be unveiled at the New York Auto Show this week.

Subaru's first true SUV, the Tribeca was debuted at the Detroit show in January 2005. It was officially released in Australia late last year but has failed to catch the local market's imagination.

At this stage it is not known when or indeed if the new Tribeca will be offered Down Under.

Look out for more on new Tribeca later this week.
