TV crash another blow for Benz

A German TV demonstration of the Distronic Plus safety system in the new S-Class has gone embarrassingly wrong for Mercedes-Benz.

Mercedes-Benz has suffered another embarrassing PR set-back after three of its flagship S-Class cars crashed into each other on German TV.

The crash happened during what was meant to be a straightforward demonstration of the safety benefits of the new Brake Assist PLUS technology that's part of its Distronic Plus “proximity control system” in Mercedes’ new top-shelf model.

To make matters worse, the demonstration was staged at Mercedes' own safety centre.

The system is said to maintain a set distance behind vehicles ahead, even if they brake.

The demonstration which turned into another headache for Mercedes-Benz management was shown on German television on channel Stern TV: see www.stern.de or check out Wheels magazine's breaking news section here: http://wheels.carpoint.ninemsn.com.au
