Mitsubishi Motors Australia has officially released its mildly facelifted 2019 Mitsubishi Outlander after an embarrassing leak on its own website a month ago.
Rear-seat air-vents, express window controls, a subtle new look inside and out, and changes to the mid-size SUV’s suspension and steering are accompanied by $300 price rises across the range.
The changes to the MY19 Mitsubishi Outlander come as the first of many 2019 product realignments from the triple-diamond brand, with the ASX to follow suit in two weeks with a range of similar updates.
According to Mitsubishi, some Outlander drive-away prices have dropped and others have risen (see pricing below), but the importer says improved equipment levels improve value across the board.
All 2019 Mitsubishi Outlander models feature new 18-inch alloy wheel designs, along with a restyled front grille, front bumper and rear bumper.
Every 2019 Mitsubishi Outlander sold in Australia now gets an adjustable speed-limiter function on a new steering wheel, while all four side windows now feature one-touch power operation – no more holding that blasted window button!
Significant mechanical changes have been effected, the upgraded Mitsubishi Outlander now benefitting from bigger front suspension struts, new rear shock absorbers and a faster-ratio steering rack to deliver improvements in “responsiveness and steering feel” and “ride comfort and body control”, according to Mitsubishi.
The 2019 Outlander’s body is stiffer now thanks to new bonding elements in the manufacturing process, says Mitsubishi, while tweaks to the exhaust system and catalytic converter are claimed to reduce engine noise.
As previously reported from the retail website leak, the new models will continue to offer 7.0-inch touch-screen infotainment systems with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay functionality,
The ‘Mitsi’ front seats on all models have been reprofiled to “increase side support”, says the Japanese brand. Outlanders equipped with the automatic transmissions (CVT and six-speed epicyclic) – which will be about 95 per cent of purchases – get rear-seat vents and a rear-seat USB port, which will suit family buyers.
New 2019 Mitsubishi Outlanders equipped with automatic transmissions also get a push-button electric park brake.
Strong-selling Outlander LS and Exceed grades add a rear spoiler and sportier front and rear body styling that’s supposed to reduce wind noise, plus updated leatherette seat trims.
There’s no mention of engine or gearbox upgrades, so we can only assume the same trinity of four-cylinder engines is offered in the facelifted Mitsubishi Outlander.
That means an entry-level 2.0-litre petrol engine (110kW/190Nm), up-spec 2.4-litre petrol engine (124kW/220Nm) and, on top-shelf LS and Exceed models. optional 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine (110kW/360Nm).
There’s also a high-tech plug-in hybrid version, but the MY19 Outlander PHEV’s updates and release timing have not yet been released.
The MY19 Outlander range spans 10 different model grades, including front- or all-wheel drive and five- or seven-seat configurations.
Automatic CVT transmissions and six-speed auto (the latter only for diesel models) are available, with a five-speed manual for the price-leading Outlander ES ($29,290).
In total seven colours will be offered and all Outlanders come with Mitsubishi’s five-year warranty.
