The Finer Details

On sale in Europe this week, the 2026 Volkswagen ID.3 Neo adopts a new face and more tech, along with a new drive system – all of which is part of the brand’s ‘True Volkswagen’ philosophy said to put customer needs first.

That means a host of new buttons and dials for added tactility inside the cabin, while higher-grade materials are also said to feature, along with a new dashboard layout and multifunction steering wheel with physical buttons.

Meanwhile, a new ‘Innovision’ 12.9-inch infotainment unit system has been fitted, along with a 10.25-inch digital cockpit ahead of the driver.

Outside, the ID.3 Neo introduces a cleaner, more modern look with a continuous light strip and illuminated VW logo to align it with the broader ID. family. That’s complemented by body-coloured roof and rear sections, which VW says gives it a longer, lower and more dynamic stance.

The trim grades consist of Trend, Life and Style.

Driving the ID.3 Neo is a newly developed electric drive system said to improve torque and efficiency. Three outputs are available: 125kW, 140kW and 170kW, paired with battery options of 50kWh, 58kWh and 79kWh.

The largest battery enables a claimed driving range of up to 630 kilometres (WLTP), while DC fast-charging capability ranges from 105kW for smaller batteries to 183kW for the biggest.

Other features include an enhanced Connected Travel Assist system with optional traffic light recognition, one-pedal driving, vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality and an expanded in-car app store allowing users to download and activate functions on demand, covering categories such as entertainment, charging and parking.

Optional extras include an augmented-reality head-up display, panoramic glass roof, Harman/Kardon audio system, 360-degree camera system, massaging front seats and Park Assist Pro with memory function.

The Road Ahead

The VW ID.3 Neo is yet to be confirmed for Australia, however a spokesperson for the German marque told carsales the company is pleased to see interest in the car.

“Volkswagen Australia continues to evaluate opportunities for the local market, however we’re not in a position to confirm local availability or timing for Australia at this stage,” they said.

Four years ago, Volkswagen confirmed the ID.3 would be on sale in Australia by 2024, but that timeframe was then pushed back to 2025 before the little EV fell off the radar for Oz altogether.
