The Finer Details

Order books have opened for the revised French EV, which will be offered exclusively in flagship Esprit Alpine specification, replacing the outgoing Techno EV60 as the sole model available locally.

The new Megane E-Tech costs $1000 more than its predecessor's regular $54,990 list price, although remaining examples of the outgoing model were discounted to $49,990 drive-away earlier in 2026.

The original Megane E-Tech launched in Australia in 2024 priced at $64,990 plus ORCs.

At its new price, the Megane E-Tech faces stiff competition from several electric passenger cars, including the Tesla Model 3, Kia EV4, MG4 and BYD Seal.

The entry-level Tesla Model 3 Rear-Wheel Drive is priced at $45,900 plus ORCs, undercutting the Megane by $10,090 while offering a claimed 572km WLTP driving range.

Even the Tesla Model 3 Premium Rear-Wheel Drive, priced at $54,900 plus ORCs, is $1090 cheaper than the Renault.

The revised Megane E-Tech introduces a 67-kilowatt-hour lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery in place of the previous model's 60kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) unit.

Claimed WLTP driving range increases from 454km to 480km, while peak DC fast-charging capacity rises from 130kW to 165kW.

Renault claims a 15–80 per cent recharge takes approximately 24 minutes. Maximum AC charging power is rated at 11kW, while vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability is introduced for the first time.

The front-mounted electric motor continues to produce 160kW and 300Nm, driving the front wheels through a single-speed transmission. Renault claims a 0–100km/h acceleration time of 7.6 seconds.

Exterior changes include revised LED headlights and daytime running lights, redesigned bumpers, new tail-lights and 20-inch Esprit Alpine alloy wheels.

Inside, the updated Megane gains a 12-inch portrait infotainment touchscreen with Google Automotive Services, including Google Maps, Google Assistant and Google Play.

Renault also claims integration with Google's Gemini artificial intelligence technology, while wired and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto remain available.

Standard equipment includes a 12.3-inch digital instrument display, nine-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, wireless smartphone charging, heated front seats and steering wheel, dual-zone climate control and a heat pump.

Both front seats feature electric adjustment, while the driver's seat adds memory and massage functions. Other additions include facial recognition for recalling driver preferences, one-pedal driving and over-the-air software updates.

Safety equipment includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality, lane-centring assistance, front and rear autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot intervention, rear cross-traffic alert, a 360-degree camera and hands-free parking assistance.

The Megane E-Tech is a compact five-door passenger car, measuring 4200mm long, 1782mm wide and 1519mm high, with a 2685mm wheelbase. Boot capacity ranges from 440 to 1332 litres.

The Road Ahead

Private buyers who place a $200 online deposit by December 31, 2026, and subsequently complete their purchase will receive a 7kW FoxESS home charger valued at $749, excluding installation.

Metallic paint adds $900, two-tone paint $1100 and matte paint $1300.

Renault advises that production and delivery lead times of up to 12 months may apply.
