Toyota has released fresh images and details of the incoming 2022 Toyota RAV4 that enters production in Europe in the third quarter and is scheduled to reach Australian showrooms before Christmas.
Highlights of the heavily updated model were confirmed by Toyota Australia back in April, and further details were shown when the US-spec car was shown in June.
Now, the European-spec Toyota RAV4 has turned up, providing us with the best view yet of its new multimedia system which features a 10.5-inch screen with a high-definition digital colour display.
The system includes cloud-based navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay, full integration with Android Auto, an on-board assistant (performing functions via the ‘Hey Toyota’ prompt) and, in Europe at least, a four-year over-the-air ‘Smart Service’ data package.
An accompanying MyT smartphone app will also allow owners to keep track of various vehicle information, such as driving analytics, fuel levels, warnings and vehicle tracker.
Remote services, such as locking and unlocking doors, operating the climate control and opening and closing windows, become standard across the range too.
In front of the driver is a new digital combimeter in the instrument binnacle that comes with flexible display settings.
It offers a choice of four styles (Casual, Smart, Sport and Tough) and three layouts and personalisation options for the large 12.3-inch TFT display, enabling drivers to select their preferred info that will include an eco-driving meter and adaptive cruise control graphics.
This new unit will not be standard at the entry level in Europe, where a 7.0-inch version of the combimeter will be fitted.
On the safety front, the new RAV4 gains enhanced Toyota Safety Sense functions including intersection support (as part of the Pre-Collision System) and emergency steering assist.
New exterior colours have also been developed for the Toyota RAV4, including a Platinum White Pearl and a bi-tone that combines Platinum White Pearl with Midnight Black Metallic.
There’s no word yet on major mechanical upgrades, but the Australian model range is expected to continue with 2.0-litre and 2.5-litre petrol engine options and a 2.5-litre petrol-electric hybrid powertrain.
Launch timing and local pricing and specs are also still to be confirmed, but carsales understands the new RAV4 will arrive during the final quarter with price rises of up to $1000, depending on the model grade.
Australian buyers who are currently on the long waiting list for the Toyota RAV4, particularly the hybrid, could find they are automatically moved into the upgraded model.
