Upgraded 2024 Skoda Kamiq small SUV revealed

Mid-life overhaul for Skoda’s smallest SUV brings fresh face, cabin revisions and new technology

The 2024 Skoda Kamiq has emerged in Europe, heralding a mid-life facelift for the small SUV that should boost competitiveness against the likes of the Hyundai Kona and Mazda CX-3.

Set to land in Australia early next year, four years after arriving on our market, the new Skoda Kamiq is easily identified by its new front-end styling that aligns it more closely with the flagship Kodiaq SUV.

Key design elements include slimmer headlights, a more upright grille and a wider air intake incorporated into the front bumper.

At the rear there’s a new diffuser adding a sportier touch to the urban SUV, although the Czech brand claims the design revisions actually provide for a more ‘rugged’ look.

For the first time, a pair of new Matrix LED headlights will be available as an option, but even without them you’ll notice the refreshed Kamiq gains a slimmer upper light element and a larger lower lamp.

At the rear, SKODA lettering is also applied across the tailgate.

Beneath its revised skin, the Skoda Kamiq remains based on the same Volkswagen Group MQB A0 architecture as the Skoda Scala hatch, which has also been under the knife.

See our separate story on the new 2024 Skoda Scale here.

The Kamiq’s 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine carries over, available in two states of tune – 70kW or 85kW. It’s paired with either a manual transmission (five-speed in the 70kW version, six-speed with the higher output) or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.

For those who need more power there’s also a 110kW 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol that comes with a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

The standard suspension carries over unchanged but there’s also the option of Sports Chassis Control that lowers the height by 10mm and offers two damper settings. In some markets a rough road suspension is also available.

Inside, there’s an 8.0-inch digital instrument cluster as standard that can be upscaled to 10.25-inch as an option.

The central touch-screen infotainment system uses an 8.25-inch screen, although high-grade models come with a larger 9.2-inch display that offers wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

As standard, the cabin comes with two USB-C ports but a tech pack boosts this to four, with an additional port in the rear-view mirror that has been added for those who use a dashcam.

Other new features include a hands-free gesture tailgate, smartphone storage pockets in the front seatbacks and a removeable box on the central tunnel.

Like the Scala hatch, the Kamiq now uses more sustainable materials such as natural plant fibres in the headlining. The wheel-arch linings and windscreen water reservoir are made using recycled plastic, while the upholstery, flooring and floor mats are produced from recycled fabric.

In Europe there’s just three model grades: Essence, Selection and the flagship Monte Carlo, which has sportier black accents and faux leather seat upholstery.

Other exterior changes include nine paint options and redesigned alloy wheels that range in size from 16- to 18-inch.

In Australia, the Skoda Kamiq is expected to land in the first quarter of 2024.

It is likely to be offered in just three grades with either the 85kW 1.0-litre turbo or with the 110kW 1.5-litre turbo, both combined with the seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Full pricing and local market details will be announced closer to its debut.
