The highest bidder for the 2015 Clipsal 500 safety car will want to be wearing polarised sunglasses, because the Octane Orange FPV GT is vivid – just the way a safety car should be.
CEO of the Adelaide street race, Mark Warren, says the online auction will run from February 20 until March 1 and represents an innovative way to raise money for South Australian children's charity Variety.
"One lucky fan is going to be driving away in the iconic Octane Orange Ford GT safety car so we encourage all race fans to make a bid and spread the word to help raise money for such a wonderful cause," said Warren.
Touted as a part of Australian motoring history, organisers say the car could fetch more than $100,000, particularly because the vehicle is one of the last FPV GTs built in Australia.
Powered by a supercharged 5.0-litre V8 engine, the Clipsal 500 safety car retains all its convenience features for the road, such as a reversing camera, colour touch-screen, Bluetooth connectivity and 19-inch alloy wheels, but features a bold exterior design guaranteed to stand out.
Variety's South Australian CEO, Mark McGill, said "We are pleased to be able to work with such generous corporate organisations to come up with innovative ways to fundraise and adapt ourselves to meet a challenging market."
"We work hard for every dollar we raise, and the smarter we can be about our initiatives, the more kids we can help," he said.
The 2015 Clipsal 500 kicks off this year's V8 Supercars Championship in Adelaide on March 1.
