VIDEO: Mercedes-AMG teases C 63 Coupe

Two short clips of 375kW BMW M4 rival hit YouTube; V8 snarl makes guest appearance

Mercedes-AMG is continuing to build the hype surrounding the launch of its C 63 Coupe by releasing two new videos teases of the C-Class flagship.

The first video, released last week, features the C 63 AMG’s V8 soundtrack as it laps a circuit unseen. The second, uploaded on the weekend, teases parts of the AMG coupe’s cabin as a Stig-like character prepares for a drive.

Eagle-eyed AMG fans might be amused by the edit of the short film that features fake Stig, engaging first gear before revving the new twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 engine all the way to an impossible near-8000rpm — despite the cold temperature warning light is being displayed and the car is at standstill.

A real owner might also be concerned by all the engine warning lights being illuminated too.

Other than the editing howler, we already know many of the details ahead of the C 63 AMG launch at the Frankfurt motor show in Septmeber. Details like the new coupe is expected to come equipped with the same muscular 375kW/700Nm as the C 63 S sedan, enabling it to reach 100km/h in less than four seconds and crack 300km/h with its limiter removed.

We also know the sportiest coupe will also share the same platform as the sedan and wagon but AMG engineers will give the new coupe its own chassis tune, while a lower centre of gravity, wider track and new suspension components should boost its agility and, perhaps, give it the edge over the BMW M4.

Like the sedan, the C 63 AMG will also be offered in a lower state of tune in some markets (probably not Australia), with the normal ‘non-S’ model expected to come with 350kW/650Nm.

The new AMG coupe will also share the same SpeedShift seven-speed automatic transmission and come with a standard traction-boosting limited-slip differential, although the more powerful ’S’ version will come with a faster-reacting electronically-controlled diff.

Weight-saving should also play a role. Like the sedan and wagon, the new high-performance coupe is expected to weigh as much as 20kg less than the car it replaces. An even lighter, more hard-core Black Series is also thought to be in development.

Expect more teases of the C-Class flagship ahead of its official unveil at the Frankfurt motor show this September.
