Vietnamese VinFast reveals new sedan and SUV
Southeast Asian car-maker's first offerings are based on outgoing BMW modelsVinFast has revealed two new models ahead of the brand's launch at the Paris motor show this October.
The unnamed models, consisting of a sedan and SUV, revealed late last night were both designed by Italian stylist Pininfarina.
The fledgling Vietnamese car-maker has announced full production of both models will commence in March 2019, at an all-new plant 120km from Hanoi.
Helping ensure VinFast's products will be competitive, it has taken the unusual decision to form a partnership with BMW and base the sedan on the previous 5 Series and the SUV on the soon-to-be-replaced X5.
Both models will be powered by turbocharged 2.0-litre BMW petrol engines and come with option of rear- or all-wheel drive.
VinFast has also announced that as soon as next year it will introduce its first pure-electric vehicle, although it's not known if that car will also share its tech with the premium German brand.
If that's not enough, the Vietnamese car-maker's rapid model expansion will include manufacturing the Opel Viva supermini under licence and building an electric scooter.
Come 2025, VinFast says it's aiming to manufacture 500,000 vehicles and one million e-scooters annually.
