Vive la Volvo XC90

Production ends for large SUV as factory gears up for successor
Volvo has ceased producing the XC90 at its Torslanda plant in Sweden – 12 years and more than 636,000 cars down the track.
The last car to roll down the line has been reserved for Volvo's museum in Gothenborg. It's the end of an era for the first generation of Volvo's largest SUV, but the second generation XC90 is soon to follow.
Volvo – already working overtime on a drip-feed PR campaign – plans to unveil the new XC90 in full from next month. Production of the new car at the Torslanda plant will commence in January next year.
"Our all-new XC90 is not just a natural development from an incredibly successful car, it is also an excellent example of the transformation underway at Volvo Cars, both within the company and from a brand perspective," says Lex Kerssemakers, Senior Vice President Product Strategy & Vehicle Line Management at Volvo Cars.
"We look forward to a new era of success."
