Volkswagen is challenging university design students to submit original concept car drawings for a new video game. Winners of the competition will be granted six-month design internships at Volkswagen's Design studio in Wolfsburg, Germany, with "the chance to work on ongoing production projects".
The proviso is simple: "Create a cool video game car for Volkswagen!".
"We are always interested in the perspective and attitude of young
designers to mobility topics and this is why we decided to take a new
approach to finding fresh design talents with the Design Contest," said
Klaus Bischoff, the Volkswagen Design boss.
Bischoff and his
design studio management team will pick three winners from the entries,
which are open to design students from around the world.
The German car maker says it wants a cool concept car "including video game scenario".
Of course being a video game concept car means the designs can be as wild and futuristic (or not) as entrants design. In fact, Volkswagen is demanding a high degree of originality.
"Classic tuning of commonly known production vehicles will play no role here," reads the competition website. "We require intelligent alternatives that communicate personal creativity".
"We are convinced that there is a huge future for the automobile. We are also convinced that driving fun and a passion for beautiful forms, "sculptures in motion" will remain significant," reads the briefing.
Applicants can work as a two-person team or solo, and there are four and/or five primary areas of focus: exterior, interior, interface, graphics and/or color & trim.
Three winners will be announced on September 30, just before the Paris motor show.
