Volkswagen Group Australia partners with JET Charge

Australia’s leading EV infrastructure provider to service Volkswagen, Skoda and Cupra dealers and customers, in addition to Audi

Volkswagen Group Australia (VGA) has announced a new partnership with JET Charge, which will provide private and commercial charging solutions for VGA customers and dealerships.

The announcement marks a significant expansion on the pre-existing collaboration between the country’s leading electric vehicle infrastructure provider and Audi.

Now Volkswagen, Skoda and Cupra dealers and customers will be able to get in on the act too – perfect timing given the long-awaited onslaught of European EVs coming from all three brands soon.

“Australia’s leading importer of European personal mobility and its leading provider of the EV charging infrastructure and technologies have joined forces,” VGA managing director Paul Sansom said.

“Already this year VGA has confirmed production of new BEVs across our brands with the strong likelihood of another to come shortly.

“Our company’s quest to become Australia’s foremost provider of zero and low emission vehicles is boosted significantly by its new association with JET Charge.”

Those two already-confirmed EVs are the Volkswagen ID.4 and ID.5 mid-size SUV twins, both of which are due in showrooms late in 2023 alongside the closely related Skoda Enyaq and Enyaq iV duo.

carsales understands the Kombi-inspired Volkswagen ID. Buzz van and people-mover will be the next model confirmed for Australia ahead of a 2024 market introduction, followed by a 2025 local launch for what will be a facelifted Volkswagen ID.3 hatch.

Until then, however, fans of electrified Volkswagen Group models will need to choose either the upcoming Cupra Born electric hatch (due here in early 2023) or one of the several plug-in hybrid (PHEV) Volkswagen models destined for our shores, including the imminent Volkswagen Touareg R, the Volkswagen Golf GTE warm hatch and Volkswagen Tiguan GTE warm SUV.

Audi obviously has its e-tron portfolio too, but those products are significantly more upmarket.

With the flurry of Euro EV action starting to emerge on the horizon, JET Charge CEO Tim Washington said he was excited to see the myriad models available in Europe finally offered Down Under.

“Having seen the diverse range of vehicles on offer from Volkswagen Group brands in European markets, it will be a thrill to see them soon available for Australian customers, coupled with a world-class charging experience,” he said.
