Volkswagen prices Tiguan lower

New model starts from below $32,000 – around $2000 cheaper than the equivalent superseded variant

VW's larger new-generation Tiguan will introduce new active safety technology and new comfort and convenience features at a lower price than the model it is set to replace, when it arrives in Australia from September.

The new range will kick off at $31,990 for the Tiguan 110TSI Trendline with manual transmission. In addition to the 110kW TSI engine in the base model, Tiguan will also offer 132kW and 162kW petrol four-cylinder engines, along with 110kW and 140kW diesel engines. All models other than the base 110TSI variant will feature 4Motion all-wheel drive.

The range is underpinned by the Trendline grade, complemented by mid-range Comfortline and flagship Highline grades. Volkswagen Australia will offer the front-wheel drive Trendline with DSG (dual-clutch) transmission as an extra-charge alternative to the manual gearbox.

Standard features will comprise 17-inch alloy wheels, Front Assist with City Emergency Brake, lane assist, Park Assist, low tyre-pressure indicator, eight-inch infotainment screen with 'App-Connect' USB porting, automatic headlights, rain-sensing wipers, cruise control and a leather-bound multi-function steering wheel.

Moving up to $36,990 for the Tiguan Comfortline brings a three-zone climate control system, satellite navigation, colour multi-function display, folding picnic tables for rear-seat occupants, front fog lights, chrome window surrounds, painted bumper inserts and pull-out storage trays under the front seats. Drivetrain options for the Tiguan Comfortline are the 110TSI, 110TDI (diesel) and 132TSI engines, all exclusively matched to the DSG transmission.

For the Tiguan Highline, priced from $48,490, the engine options 140TDI and 162TSI, both with DSG as standard. Features as standard, in addition to the Comfortline specification, include 18-inch alloys, keyless entry, powered tailgate, eight-inch Discover Pro satellite navigation, leather upholstery, heated front sports seats, electrically-adjustable driver's seat, ambient interior lighting, LED reading lights, powered fold-in mirrors, Gearshift paddles, tinted rear side glass, premium LED tail lights and a chrome strip in the engine-cooling duct.

Volkswagen will market the Tiguan with a Luxury Package ($5000 with Comfortline grade), Driver Assistance Package ($2000 with Comfortline and Highline) and the R-Line package for the Highline ($4000).

Effectively raising the Tiguan Comfortline to Highline standard, the features bundled up in the Luxury pack consist of leather upholstery, electrically-adjustable driver's seat, heated front seats, power fold-in mirrors, keyless entry, electrically-operated tailgate with Easy Open and Close, and a panoramic electric glass sunroof.

For both the mid-range and high-grade Tiguan variants, the Driver Assistance Package incorporates adaptive cruise control, Side Assist with Rear Traffic Alert, Active Info display, power fold-in mirrors and area view.

Primarily a cosmetic upgrade for the Highline flagship variants, the R-Line package boasts a body kit, enhanced interior, 20-inch alloy wheels, adaptive chassis control and progressive steering.
