The sporty Wolfsburg nameplate has returned, this time to help bid farewell to the current-generation 2025 Volkswagen T-Roc R, which will be replaced by an all-new model later this year.
First used back in 2015 on the Mk7 Golf R, the Volkswagen T-Roc R Wolfsburg Edition pays tribute to VW’s home town in Germany by adding sportier highlights to give the SUV some added visual punch.
Just 200 examples will be made, with each T-Roc R Wolfsburg Edition priced from $69,290 plus on-roads – $4300 more than the standard T-Roc R.
That premium includes new matte Indium Grey paint, large 19-inch Pretoria alloy wheels finished in Dark Graphite grey, plus a set of roof rails, mirror caps, the rear hockey stick trim, lower radiator, and rear C-pillar all finished in black.
Within, more gloss black has been employed for the air vents frame and the display control panel.
As well as cosmetic changes, the T-Roc R also comes with a lightweight Akrapovic titanium exhaust, although Volkswagen claims the system offers no boost in performance.
Under the bonnet a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine continues to produce 221kW and 400Nm, the unit mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission that spins up all four wheels.
With that level of power, the T-Roc R is claimed to sprint to 100km/h in just 4.9 seconds – just 0.1 second slower than the more modern and expensive 235kW VW Golf R (Mk8.5).
The list of standard kit on the T-Roc R is high, and includes adaptive dampers, progressive steering, matrix LED headlights, an electric tailgate, and heated front power-adjustable sport seats finished in Nappa leather.
The special T-Roc R also comes with a 9.2-inch infotainment system and a digital instrument cluster plus advanced driver-assist tech that includes adaptive cruise with lane assist and side assist.
Just one option is available for the T-Roc R Wolfsburg – a panoramic glass sunroof that costs $2100.
“Australia is a very significant market globally for T-Roc R and now the Wolfsburg Edition gives Australian customers the opportunity to own the definitive version of the ultimate T-Roc,” said Volkswagen Australia’s marketing and product boss, Nathan Johnson.
